About Us
Serving Chicago since 1978
City Newsstand began on May 16, 1978, when Joe Angelastri opened a corner newsstand in Chicago. What started as a traditional neighborhood newsstand grew into one of Chicagoland's most distinctive destinations for magazines, newspapers and readers looking for something beyond the ordinary.
Over the years, City Newsstand became known for the depth and variety of its selection, with magazines covering everything from current events and culture to hobbies, art, music, travel and specialty interests.
Today, the City News family includes City Newsstand and City News Café in Chicago, along with Chicago-Main Newsstand in Evanston. The business continues to combine the character of an independent newsstand with the welcoming atmosphere of a neighborhood gathering place.
At City News Café, guests can enjoy coffee and espresso drinks along with handmade dark chocolate truffles while browsing, meeting friends or simply taking a break with something good to read.
Independent. Local. Serving readers since 1978.
